Beginning Weaving Workshop $135

  • Woodshop Woodshop 4310 North Williams Avenue Portland, OR, 97217 United States (map)

In this 5 hour class you'll learn the fundamentals of weaving on a frame loom from Portland artist Natalie Novak.  During this hands-on workshop you'll learn how to set up your loom, weave simple shapes, create textures and finish your weaving.  We'll cover terms and techniques to help unravel the mysteries of weaving so you can continue on your own with confidence.  Materials will be provided to use during class to start (and maybe finish!) your own woven wall hanging.  You'll leave the workshop with a new skill set and a basic loom kit with all the essentials.

Kit includes:

-A simple wooden frame for weaving

-A set of weaving tools: comb/fork, shed stick and needles.

-Enough warp string for your next few projects.

-An illustrated instruction booklet with everything we learned in class.

-A selection of yarns to start weaving with.

Space is limited to 8 students allow for individual instruction.  Light refreshment provided.  We will take a short break midday; you may wish to bring a sack lunch or grab a bite to go from one of the restaurants nearby.

Please note: the Woodshop Woodshop building shares restroom facilities with our neighbors at Bridge City Collective (AKA the bathroom is next door).  Please email me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this arrangement or anything else about the class:
