Intro to Visible Mending $55

  • The Carver Room at Old Salt Marketplace 5027 Northeast 42nd Avenue Portland, OR, 97218 United States (map)

Join Nina and Sonya Montenegro (the makers and designers behind The Far Woods) to learn how to simply and beautifully fix a hole in the knee of your jeans by hand, with a few basic tools, in a few simple steps.  Visible mending is a stunning way to give new life to your clothing.  Learning to mend will save you money and lessen your impact on the environment as you will add years to the life of your well-worn clothing.  Rebel against throwaway culture and join the slow fashion movement!

This class is a great way to brush up on and practice your hand-sewing skills.  If you don't have experience sewing, that is ok too!  We will focus on getting comfortable with two basic hand sewing stitches: the whip stitch & running stitch.  We will provide a wide variety of fabrics to use as patches, as well as all the tools needed to complete the project.

If you don't currently have jeans with holes that need mending, that's ok too!  You might choose to take this class to customize your clothing by learning to add a decorative patch to the jean leg.  After learning how to add a patch, you can mend and personalize all of your clothing over time to create a wardrobe that is completely unique.  Become a part of a rich history of visible mending!

Light refreshments will be provided.
